We cordially invite you to join us for the Second International Conference of the Foundation for Auditing Research (FAR) on Wednesday 7 June (begins at 12:00) and Thursday 8 June 2017 (ends at 12:45). The theme of this year’s conference is “Controversies in Future Audit Quality – A multi-stakeholder perspective”.

The Foundation
FAR offers the unique opportunity to bring about cooperation between scholars and audit firms for exchange in the search for the drivers of audit quality and the root causes of audit quality failures. The conference is focused on sharing what we already know from science on relevant questions from auditing practice (also based on the intermediate outcomes of the FAR Research Projects), discussing views from practice, standard setters and regulators, and sharing of research opportunities.

Program
We are happy to be able to confirm Mark DeFond (University of Southern California) as keynote speaker on “Controversies of Audit Quality”. The definition of and views on audit quality of Mark DeFond and his colleagues are central in FAR’s Research Agenda. Chris Humphrey (University of Manchester), Agnes Koops (PwC Assurance Board), Martijn Bos (Eumedion) and Michael de Ridder (Chair OPAK and PwC Board Member) will participate in a panel chaired by FAR board member Robert Knechel.

We are furthermore honored with keynote speaker Jeroen Dijsselbloem (Minister of Finance of the Netherlands) discussing his views and expectations of the auditing profession’s societal contributions. Gerben Everts (Board member of the Authority Financial Markets, the audit profession’s supervisor) will share his views on the future development of audit supervision. We are working on further keynote speeches / panelists from practice and policy makers.

Four timeslots are dedicated to presentations by the FAR Research Groups on “What do we already know about…?” research topics such as:

  • Professional skepticism: nature, culture and quality (by Prof. dr. Kris Hardies, University of Antwerp);
  • Multi-team-membership and audit quality (by dr. Reggy Hooghiemstra, University of Groningen);
  • Talent development and performance management in auditing (by Prof. dr. Frank Moers, University of Maastricht); and
  • Component-auditor coordination and communication challenges (by Prof. dr. Anna Gold, Free University Amsterdam, and dr. Denise Hanes Downey, Villanova University).

The conference is particularly of interest for audit researchers, audit practitioners and firm management, auditing standards setters, audit supervisors and auditing teachers. On 7 June, the conference will start with a lunch at 12:00 and will run into the evening with dinner at 19:00. On 8 June, the conference will start at 08:00 and will end with a lunch at 12:45. Download here the full program of this event.

Throughout the conference there will be ample opportunity to share and discuss research opportunities and projects for the research agenda of FAR, including the status of the 2017 call for research projects. The conference is open to everyone, free of charge and will be provided in English. Participants can apply for Dutch credits for permanent education (PE points).
