Marcel van Rinsum is Professor of Accounting & Incentives at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He obtained his MSc in Business Economics with a specialization in Financial Management from the University of Amsterdam (with distinction) and earned his PhD in 2006. His teaching spans bachelor, master, MBA, and executive programs, where he focuses on management control and performance measurement.His research examines performance measurement and reporting, incentive systems, evaluation judgments, and managerial behavior. Marcel has published extensively in leading journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, and Management Accounting Research. His work addresses topics including transparency, discretion in performance evaluation, and the behavioral effects of incentives on managers and auditors. Recent studies explore auditor judgment conservatism, strategic promotion behavior under group incentives, and disclosure practices in aggressive accounting.Marcel regularly contributes to academic and professional debates on management control and accountability, and his insights have influenced both research and practice in the design of performance measurement systems. He also serves as a speaker and advisor on issues related to incentives, governance, and organizational resilience in turbulent times.
