Laura Smeets obtained her Ph.D. from Maastricht University, where her dissertation titled The auditor learning curve: Professional development through learning from errors and coaching explored how auditors learn from mistakes and coaching in their professional development. Her research focuses on workplace learning, judgment and decision-making in the audit domain, and the role of psychological safety and supervisor behavior in fostering learning from errors. Laura has published in journals such as Baltic Journal of Management and Vocations and Learning, and her work provides insights into how organizational and social factors influence auditors’ ability to learn and improve audit quality.
